HaRav Aharon Bina, son of HaRav Aryeh and Rebbetzin Rachel Bina, was born in Jerusalem in 1948. Upon the completion of his elementary school education, he began learning in the Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he spent the next ten years.

In 1970 he married Malke Milikovsky of Baltimore, Maryland. The young couple spent their first year of marriage in New York, where Rav Bina learned in Yeshivat Rabenu Yitzchak Elchanan (Yeshiva University) in the shiur of Rav Yoseph Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik (a.k.a. the Rav), and in the Yeshiva University Kollel. Rav Bina fondly recalls Rav Solveitchik's shiur as the place where he truly acquired skills for learning.

At the end of that year, Rav and Rebbetzin Bina returned to Eretz Yisrael where Rav Bina spent the following four years learning in Kollel under the tutelage of Jerusalem's Chief Rabbi Betzalel Zolty. Rav Bina then received Smicha (Rabbinic Ordination) from Chief Rabbis HaRav Ovadiah Yoseph and HaRav Unterman, as well as HaRav Shlomo Tinivansky, the Rosh Beit Din of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

In 1974 Rav Bina took a position as a Rebbe in Yeshivat Hakotel in Jerusalem's Old City. Although students had been coming from the Diaspora to learn in Yeshivat HaKotel from it's inception, Rav Bina took upon himself to create a formal program for bnei Chutz la'Aretz. The program, which began with a mere ten students, has grown to one of the most successful overseas programs in Israel, with over two hundred students now learning in Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh.

Rav Bina has served as captain and chaplain in the Israeli Defense Force, his service including reserve duty along the Lebanese border during the Lebanon war in 1982. Rebbetzin Bina taught in Michlala and subsequently founded, and still heads, the Matan Institute for Women. The Bina's five children and many grandchildren all live in Eretz Yisrael.
